06/26/04 Dalai Lama to visit Mexico...

 Associated Press, Mexico City - The Dalai Lama will make a five-day trip to Mexico City in October, members of the Mexican Buddhist community announced Thursday.

During the Oct 3 to Oct 8 visit, the Dalai Lama is scheduled to participate in a multi-faith ceremony at the city's main cathedral which will include Roman Catholic Cardinal Norberto Rivera and members of the city's Jewish, Muslim and Hindu communities.

The winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989 also is to give speeches, take part in seminars and meet with the local Buddhists.

Marco Antonio Karam, president and founder of Casa Tibet in Mexico, said at a news conference that the Dalai Lama would not complicate his visit by discussing politics.

The Dalai Lama, who lives in Dharamsala, India, also plans to visit Costa Rica, El Salvador and Guatemala.
