07/16/04 Thubten Dargyel was arrested and a charged with felony sexual assault {Tibetan} WI USA.

16. July, 2004

In
Wisconsin, horror has struck about 80 Tibetans and number of American friends to support Thubten la and his family.

Many of them were carrying post signs like "Thubten is a Good Dad", "He is a Man", "He is One of the Best Person in the Community", "We Support Him",.

Last month, Thubten Dargyel was arrested and a charged with felony sexual assault.  Thubten Dargyel worked as a resident care technician
in a
Madison
care facility for the developmentally disabled.  He appeared
in court yesterday where approximately 80 supporters, both from the Tibetan
and the western communities, gathered outside with signs that attested to
his good character and his good standing in his community.  The supporters
also presented a letter, signed by members of his community, that listed his
achievements within his community and in his private life.  The letter also
carried an appeal that Mr. Dargyel be allowed a fair chance to prove his
innocence and reclaim his name and reputation.

An article in the Wisconsin State Journal (dated 1. July, 2004) reported that
the arrest and arraignment came after a resident at the facility was discovered
to have been pregnant and miscarried almost a year ago.  Prosecutors are
claiming that the evidence and investigation support their case.  As a prelude
to the ensuing court case, Mr. Dargyel has acceded to the facility's request
that he take a leave of absence: an action that was more for the purposes
of preparing themselves for a lawsuit concerning liability, than for any findings
of fact that there had been wrongdoing on Mr. Dargyel's part.  However,
the solidarity of the Tibetan community, not only in Wisconsin, but also
throughout the Midwest, must serve to underscore that such an accusation is
out of character for a man who was elected to serve on the Wisconsin Tibetan
Association Board, not once, but twice, who is very active in his community
and who has never been charged with a single misdemeanor or any outrage
of the law.

The court appearance yesterday ended with Mr. Dargyel's bond being extended
to the date of the next court appearance which is 26. July, 2004 at
01:30 pm.
