Venerable Bardor Tulku Rinpoche was born in 1950 in Kham, East Tibet. He was recognized by His Holiness the Sixteenth Gyalwa Karmapa at a very early age as the third reincarnation of the Bardor Tulku Rinpoches. In 1977 His Holiness asked Rinpoche to remain in New York at Karma Triyana Dharmachakra (http://www.kagyu.org). Bardor Tulku Rinpoche continues tirelessly to teach and work for the flourishing of His Holiness' Seat and Center in Woodstock. In conjunction with Venerable Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche, Abbot of KTD, Bardor Rinpoche skillfully guides, participates in practice retreats, leads pujas and teaches students at affiliate Karma Thegsum Cholings and Karma Kagyu Study Groups. Rinpoche's teaching style is not confined to formal settings. Away from the shrine room, Rinpoche's warmth, openness and growing command of English communicates to all, simply and directly, the compassionate wisdom of the Buddha Dharma.
Venerable Traleg Kyabgon Rinpoche was born in eastern Tibet in 1955 and recognized by His Holiness the Sixteenth Gyalwa Karmapa as the ninth reincarnation of the Traleg Tulku Rinpoches. Rinpoche regularly gives lectures and seminars world-wide on Buddhism and related topics, and has become well known for his erudition, fluency in English and background in western psychology and comparative religion. In 1980 he relocated to Australia where he founded and currently is the president and director of the Kagyu E-Vam Buddhist Institute. http://www.evaminstitute.org.au/
In his newest book, Mind at Ease: Self Liberation through Mahamudra Meditation, Traleg Kyabgon Rinpoche presents a thorough introduction to the Kagyu lineage's Mahamudra tradition. The author's approach is straightforward--he presents the Mahamudra teachings as a means of seeing things in, as he says: "a positive and open light. Even things we might normally regard as bad and undesirable can be interpreted in a more uplifting way due to the expansiveness of the Mahamudra vision. Mahamudra , which means "great seal" or "great symbol," referring to the symbol or mark of ultimate reality, or emptiness, points to the true nature of mind as well as the ultimate insubstantiality of all things.

Chicago KTC opened its new main shrine room to the public for the first time in October of 2003. Traditional painting of the main shrine room was supervised by Tibetan master painter Thinley Chojor, resident artist at KTD.
