Chicago - 7/15/05: In continuation of HH the Dalai Lama's Birth Day celebration Tibetan Alliance of Chicago hosted a sumptuous Dinner, colorful cultural show and exhibition-cum-sales of Tibetan artifacts at Unity Church in Rogers Park, Chicago from 6:00 PM to 11: PM. About 300-350 people came to enjoy the program.
The varity of food selection was the best of all home cooked in Tibetan, Indian, Chinese and western style preparations. People enjoyed it in picnic way in the lawn of the Church under trees and shades. For the cultural performance, one of the performers said, they spent few months practicing the songs and dances every evening. It included recitation of KA, Kha, Tibetan Alphabets, by a group of as small as 3 - 6 years old children to songs and dances by mothers of Tibetan community in Chicago. And from Solo Tibetan nomadic song to group Chang-Zhey, song for the Tibetan home brewed beverage, that makes one as tipsy as any other drink with alcohol in it, were sung. There was an item where mothers sang to the rhythm of dra-nyen, Tibetan lute played by the daughters of the community. The program was concluded with presentation of awards to volunteers, who were responsible for after school program and other events for Tibetan Alliance. |
