08/01/05 Generation of compassion precedes Empowerment...

 By - N. Samphell BVI.

Chicago: 7/30/05 - Chicago Tibetan Community received yet another White Tara Longevity Empowerment from a former abbot of Gaden Jangzey, Khenzur Lobsang Choejor of Trehor Khangsten, followed by an advice on the importance of preserving Tibetan Culture, Language and Literature.

As with all such empowerment, we were instructed into taking refuge vow in the three jewels - The Buddha, Dharma and Shangha, and the generation of Buddhicita - compassion for all sentient beings.

Khensur Rinpoche said, that the altruistic mind begins with the thought of all sentient beings, including one's enemies as our mothers. As we had been taking numerous births, life after life, we had numerous mothers. And as mothers, they loved and cared us in the same way as our mother of this life. Therefore, generation of compassion for all sentient beings always precedes the formal empowerment.

That is because, he continued, that we are being empowered to meditate, and practice white Tara, who is the embodiment of compassion of all Buddhas and Buddisatvas of the three times - past, future and present. Though, we do not have the ultimate, unconditional compassion, yet we need to generate at least, the relative compassion for all beings. And that is a must.

Then the formal empowerment through Torma, Tse-chang, and Tse-rill were bestowed upon us with instructions on how to concentrate and visualize respectively in each case.

It was concluded with distribution of HH the Dalai Lama's protection cord, and blessing pills from Gaden Monastery.

Khensur Rinpoche and his attendants were requested for house blessings, prayers, and rituals in private Tibetan homes in the following day.

They read Zung-dhud - a Sutra text and did prayers for BVI.
