In Tibetan language, “Pharping” is called Yanglasho. This holy place was discovered by Guru Padmasambhava and nearby he found a sacred cave now called Asura cave for his retreat. Below this cave a natural Tara-Devi image emerging out of a rock in a small temple which can still be found. This tample was built by Ven. Drubtop Rinpoche. From this point it is only 5 minutes walk to reach Sang-Ngag Phurpa-Ling with Asura cave as its background.
As per the wishes of Dhilgo-Khyentse Rinpoche, the 6th Gochen Tulku Sang-Ngag Rinpoche made this a retreat center. The earth or Bhumi Puja was performed by Drupwang Pema Norbu Rinpoche and later the center was blessed by Shechen Rabjam Rinpoche and Jadrel Rinpoche jointly. The retreat here is undertaken with strict guidance of the Nyingmapa tradition. It is difficult to explain the secrets and depth of such a retreat.
The initial course is for three years. The curriculum for the first year is to practice the preliminary mind sublimation and thereafter hundreds of thousands and millions of sacred deities mantra recitations in full concentration have to be fulfilled.
The curriculum for the second year is to meditate on the three root observations with emphasis on the generation stage practice. The curriculum for the third year is to meditate mainly on the energy channels and the completion stages of yoga.
Daily timetable for the retreat and practices are: -
Morning 3:00 - 6:00 AM 7:00 - 10:00 AM. Afternoon 1:00 - 4:00 PM. Evening 7:00 - 10: PM
Daily traditional morning incense Pujas, afternoon ritual and sacramental cakes and evening dedication prayers are being held every day without a break.

Nesum Dakki Yongdu Ling Retreat Center
Initially, in accordance with the advice of Ven. Khyentse Rinpoche, Tulku Sang-Ngag Rinpoche began to plan to set-up this center and with the help of generous sponsor, the present retreat center for the nuns was built for the first time in Nepal. The methodology of the retreat is in the Nyingmapa tradition with special emphasis placed on the following of the Shugseb Jetsunma Lochen Rinpoche’s practices. This Rinpoche was born in Rewalsar in Himachal Pradesh, India.
The name of the place in Tibet is called Tso-Pema meaning lotus-lake. She had received a number of teachings from many scholars in India and Nepal including Ven. Trushe Rinpoche of Solukhumbu. Later, she went to Tibet and renovated the Shugseb Nunnery. This was one of the most significant contributions in the development of Buddhist Nunneries and as a result probably became the most popular Yogini in this century.
This retreat center is situated at Pharping near the Guru Rinpoche’s retreat cave. The first course of retreat for 13 nuns for three years was completed successfully in 1996. This is all due to the untiring and relentless efforts of Kyabje Jadrel Rinpoche who gave the full guidance, teachings and empowerment initiations.
Now in the second batch of the retreat course, there are 13 nuns undertaking serious practice.
Tulku Sang-Ngag Rinpoche is the immediate chief Incharge of the retreat center.
