SHEG NARAYAN STHAN

It is popular among both the Tibetan and Nepalese Buddhist scholars that Sheg Narayan Sthan is the holy place of Acharya Padma Sambhava.  Here, during his meditation, he was attacked from above by snakes, who were magically created by Nagas.  In a staring and contemptuous manner, he hit them on their heads with his Vajra Ritual Dagger and thereby transformed them into rock.

This can still be seen at the upper rock in the form of several snakes being chased downwards.  From the mark on the head of the middle snake, it is said that sometimes water flows on special occasions.  From among the four Vidyadharas discovered by Padma Sambhava, having found the Mahamudra Vidyadhara, at this spot he eradicated the demon of delusion.

Hindus also believe this is the sacred site of Naga Lhagmachen, or Sheg Narayan and Vishnu.  Below the “several snakes being chased downwards” in a small temple, there is a statue of Naga Lhagmachen; outside on the right, there is a statue of Balarama and a statue of Vishnu.  Below the statues, there is a small well-called “White Black”, which is consider to be a sacred site to many people.
