PHAM THING (Pharping)
Pham Thing town is the birthplace of the Pham Thingpa brothers, the heart sons of the glorious Naropa. Marpa the great translator stayed here for a long period.
PHAMTHING VAJRAYOGINI (Pharping)
Close to the town of Phamthing, in a beautiful and blessed temple, there is a magnificent statue of the India Sky Goer Vajrayogini. There is a story that the snake headed neck ornament of this statue sometimes speaks. The statue is believed to have been taken out from the treasure of Nepalese Phamthingpa. Below the present coppered golden statue of Vajrayogini, in the temple, the main object is situated. It has a size of about seven and half inches (the attendant, if paid, will allow you to see it). Around it, there are three other copper statues of Vajrayogini. It seems that the temple was renovated later, and was consecrated by a Buddhist Acharya. Even up until this present day, we can see Nepalese Buddhists making offerings and prayers before it.
In the past, a great mediator from Odiyana, during his stay here constantly performed the Fire Puja. For this reason, the right and the left side of the temple are called the Fire of Aeon. These days, the fire that arises from the burning of incense by the attendants of the temple, is known as the fire of Aeon, as it forms a resemblance to the Fire Puja. Hindus also come here to pray.
ASURA CAVE (Pharping)
The ASURA Cave is the spot where ACHARYA PADMA SAMBHAVA is said to have appointed the 12 TENMAS as the protectors of Tibet. Generally, it is believed that the great practitioners of India, Nepal and Tibet visited this site and turned the wheel of dharma. To the left and right side of the cave, there are some meditation cells founded by Tibetans later. Because GURU GORAKHNATH stayed here for sometime, many people call it GORAKHNATH. The hand impression on the right side of the external door and the footprints on the frontal face of the rock cave are known to be of Ascetic GORAKH. The local people call this sacred site GORAKHNATH GUFA.
THE SELF EMERGED STATUE OF TARA (Pharping)
Below the Asura Cave, on the side of a small rock there is a statue of Ganesh and a statue of the self emerged TARA which originated from the small rock cave itself. Both the Buddhist and Hindus come here to pray.
