For more than 300 million Buddhists in the world, the sacred garden of Lumbini is where it all began. Twenty-five hundred years ago, on the full moon of the 6th month, Queen Mayadevi grasped the branch of a Sal tree for support and from her right side, miraculously gave birth to Prince Siddartha Gautama, the future Buddha. As the divine birthplace of Buddha Sakyamuni, Sage of the Sakyas, and therefore the luminous doorway of His indisputable Teachings, the blessed Lumbini ceaselessly radiates the light of wisdom. Located in the Himalayan foothills of Nepal, Lumbini is a treasure trove of ancient ruins with powerful associations. |
