01/03/07 NORTH AMERICA TIBETANS TO MAKE LONG-LIFE OFFERING TO HIS HOLINESS THE DALAI LAMA

Contact Person: Tashi Namgyal, Ph: 206-542-3774 NORTH AMERICA TIBETANS TO MAKE LONG-LIFE OFFERING TO HIS HOLINESS THE DALAI LAMA In July 2008, Deer Park Buddhist Center in Oregon (adjacent to Madison) in Wisconsin state will see the largest ever gathering of Tibetans, who will flock there from different parts of the US and Canada to receive Buddhist teachings from His Holiness the Dalai Lama and to make long-life prayer offerings to him. His Holiness will visit Wisconsin from July 18-25, 2008 at the invitation of Deer Park Buddhist Center. During his stay there, he will give a five-day Buddhist teaching, organized jointly by Deer Park Buddhist Center and Tibetan community of North America, and accept a special long-life offering from the Tibetans. Proposals for the long-life offering came up first during the August-2006 Conference of Tibetan Associations in North America, held at Tolstoy Foundation in upstate New York, during which a special committee was formed, consisting of the presidents of all the 30 Tibetan associations. Association presidents subsequently met in St. Paul, Minnesota, and established an eight-member working committee, who would take care of preparation works like fund raising, publicity, arranging accommodation, transport, auditorium, vendors' stalls, legal documentation, cultural and social activities etc. Leaders of the Tibetan community believe that the ceremony will give Tibetans in North America a special opportunity to express "our infinite sense of gratitude to His Holiness and to rededicate ourselves to the cause of Tibet under his guidance".
