Nawang Khechog is one of the main performers. This CD will represent other performers also, because it has Tibetan flute, Tibetan long horn, overtone chanting, Aboriginal didgeridoo, African drums and kalimba; Mayan ocarinas; Native American drum; and chants of univeral love by His Holiness the Dalai Lama and others.

ABOUT NAWANG KHECHOG:

In an historic moment, in 2000, he was the first Tibetan to be nominated for a prestigious Grammy Award. He has toured internationally for the last twenty years, and has performed live with Philip Glass, R. Carlos Nakai, Andrea Griminelli (Pavarotti's flutist), Laurie Anderson, Kitaro, David Bowie, Peter Kater, Ustad Sultan Khan, Natalie Merchant, and Trey Anastasio of Phish.

 

Nawang has performed over a dozen times at Carnegie Hall for the Tibet House annual benefit concert, and at the U.N. General Assembly Hall for the opening of the first Earth Summit. Most recently, he performed for the opening ceremony of the public address by the ten leading Nobel Peace Laureates in Denver , Colorado , for the PeaceJam Foundation's tenth anniversary celebration. ABOUT AMCHOK GOMPO DHUNDUP:

He is a famous singer in Tibet . The songs he composed and sang has "political and religious" tone, and fearing repression from the Chinese government, he escaped Tibet and joined the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts in Dharamsala , India , and taught there before immigrating to Canada . He regularly performs with various settings, the most recent at Canada National Native Festival and Canada Multicultural Festival. He has produced several CDs. For more information, please visit

ABOUT SONAM LHAMO:

She graduated from the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts, Dharamsala , India . Although, this is her first visit to Chicago , she has had performed at several places in the United States , Canada and Europe . She also teaches Tibetan Dance and Music in New York .

 

 

ABOUT TENZIN DOLMA:

She is now 13 years of age and already has come up with her DVD(Menchung Bhumo) release of her best performance collection in tribute to our contemporary Tibetan music and singers as she maintains them to be her epitome of motivation and encouragement to boost her singing career. While not limitting to having stood first in Cholsum Doekar solo competition at New York 2005, Tenzin Dolma had displayed her humble talent in so many other official and non official occasions where she received numerous appreciations and certificates in and around  New York . 

 

 

ABOUT LOBSANG YANGPHEL:

He teaches Tibetan Music and Dance for the Tibetan children in Chicago . He performed at several venues around Chicago , including Chicago TIBETfests.

 

 

ABOUT MIGMAR CHUNGKYI:

Although this is her first performance in Chicago , she performed in and around Madison . She is planning to bring out a CD for relaxation.

 

 

ABOUT MARK CLEVELAND:

This Evanston singer-songwriter, who sounds a bit like John Hiatt, will be performing throughout Chicago this summer as one of the "Great Entertainers of Illinois, World Music Festival" and with the Silk Road Orchestra. He regularly performs with Bill Miller and Corky Siegel, and his musical compositions are now featured in the Field Museum's "Hall of the Descendants" gallery in the new Ancient America's exhibit. ABOUT CHICAGO DIDJERIDU CHORUS:

This is perhaps Chicago's largest acoustic tribal percussion ensemble, featuring the Australian Didjeridu as its centerpiece. The Didjeridu is an ancient Australian instrument that has been used by various indigenous tribes in the Northern region of Australia for at least  6,000 years. The culture from whence it comes is said to be 45,000 years old.

 

Founded by Tim Porcelli in 1991 as a Didjeridu Storytelling group, the Chicago Didjeridu Chorus has since grown to include handmade instruments from indigenous cultures around the world, including: Didjeridu (Australia), hand drums from Africa, India, Puerto Rico, Siberia, Cuba, Indonesia and the Middle East, Tibetan Singing Bowls, Balinese Temple Gong, various wooden flutes, the Kora (African Gourd Harp from Senegal), Tongue Drums (USA), Zithers (USA), and a variety of other percussion instruments.
