The International Tibet Independence Movement (ITIM) will be coordinating yet another "March for Tibet" from China's Consulate in New York City to Independence Hall in Philadelphia. ITIM is working closely on this project with the Regional Tibetan Youth Congress-New York and New Jersey and the Tibetan Association of Philadelphia. This 100-mile walk will begin at 9am on June 27 and end at 1pm on July 4.
Eighty-five-year-old Taktser Rinpoche (His Holiness The Dalai Lama's oldest brother) will launch the walk at the Consulate and He also will be on hand to receive the walkers at Independence Hall. Twenty-four Tibetans and one Westerner will walk the entire time. These individuals are from New York, Massachusetts, Chicago, Maryland, Virginia, California, Philadelphia, Vermont, New Jersey, Indiana, and India.
This walk offers the Tibetan community and Tibet supporters an excellent opportunity to advocate for Tibet. I want to respectfully request that you support this project in any way you feel comfortable, especially by raising funds to assist ITIM.
ITIM is a volunteer organization that relies on donations. ITIM does not have a great deal of money and it needs your help to pay for the rental of a 15 person van, food, printing, copying, fuel, and other expenses. Many of our walkers are taking off time from work and leaving their families, and many are losing money to walk. ITIM cannot ask these individuals to pay for their own food, to pay for the gas for the van, etc. You can support this project by: a) sponsoring a walker ($350); b) sponsoring meals for the walkers each day ($10 per walker or $240 for all the walkers each day); c) contributing $1 for each mile of the walk or $100 (100 miles) to cover all the miles; and/or d) contributing any amount of money you can afford.
Checks can be made out to ITIM and sent to ITIM, PO Box 592, Fishers, Indiana, 46038, USA. Thus far, ITIM has raised $3,000. We need to raise an additional $7,000 to cover all the anticipated expenses. ITIM is a 501(c) 3 not for profit organization and donations are tax deductible to the extent permitted by U.S. law.
