Renovation on the last two sections of sandy road for China-Nepal Highway will be launched and as expected, the project will be completed in May 2008. Till then, the Tibetan section for China-Nepal Highway will be all covered by blacktop.
With a total length of 943 kilometers, the China-Nepal Highway covers a total distance of 829 kilometers in China and it ranks the only international highway in Tibet. Opened in May 1967, the China-Nepal Highway has made contribution to the economic trade cooperation and bilateral friend communication.
Because of the long-term run, the current China-Nepal Highway condition can't satisfy the bilateral trade demand. So in 2003, the Central Government invested to renovate the highway and four years later, Quxu-Da Chuka section and Xigaze-Lhatse section have been rebuilt to be the 3rd-level blacktop in 2006. |
