THEME OF THE CONFERENCE

MEANINGFUL CAREER, MINDFUL TIBETAN

 CONFERENCE PURPOSE STATEMENT

This conference seeks to bring together Tibetan university students from North America
with the goal of providing a forum which aims to fulfill the following purposes:

Lay the foundation to develop a Tibetan student support system through a strong and community-minded network;

Stimulate, in light of educational opportunities available in North America, reflection on career planning with long-term consideration of the individual and community interests;

Emphasize the importance of an in-depth understanding of current realities in Tibet and one's own responsibility.

Presentation by Nima Dorjee, Director of the Engineering Internship Program at the University of Calgary, Canada

Presentation by Tenzin Dargyal Khangsar, the chief of staff for Mr. Jason Kenney, Secretary of State for multiculturalism, Federal Government of Canada

Taking advantage of undergraduate and graduate experiences
Presentation by Tashi Rabgey, Director, Contemporary Tibetan Studies Program, University of Virginia.

Note: Each panelist will make a 15 to 20-minute presentation. The presentations will take an hour. Remaining one hour will be devoted to questions and answers.

Community capacity building: The power of knowledge
Presentation by Dicki Chhoyang, Planner with several years experience as a development practitioner in Tibet

Balancing a professional life and an individual contribution towards the Tibetan community

Presentation by Nima Taylor, an associate in the Litigation Department of the Paul, Weiss law firm

Note: Each panelist will make a 15 to 20-minute presentation. The presentations will take an hour. Remaining one hour will be devoted to questions and answers.

Zomkyi studied at Tibet University in Lhasa from 2004 to 2006.

A Year in Beijing
Presentation by Yangchen Lhamo Chagzoetsang (Stanford University). Yangchen Lhamo spent several months learning Chinese language at the Beijing Normal University and Beijing University.

English Teacher in Amdo
Presentation by Tenzin Dickyi (Harvard University)
Dickyi spent three months volunteering as an English Teacher in Amdo
