HIS HOLINESS THE DALAI LAMA VISITS GERMANY - “NO PEACE WITHOUT HUMAN RIGHTS”

His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Tibet’s Spiritual and Temporal leader will visit Germany from 15 – 19 May 2008 at the invitation of Tibet Initiative Deutschland, Germany’s largest Tibet support group. His Holiness the Dalai Lama, the Nobel Peace Laureate will visit four major German cultural and historical cities as well as Berlin, the capital of Germany. This is His Holiness’ 33rd visit to Germany and had been planned since last year. The theme of the visit is “No Peace without Human Rights”.
On arrival in Frankfurt on 15 May morning, Mr. Roland Koch, the Chief Minister of Hesse state of Germany will call on His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
Dr. Norbert Lammert, the Speaker of the German Parliament and Dr. Jürgen Rüttgers, the Chief Minister of North-Rhine Westphalia state of Germany will separately call on His Holiness in Bochum.
Tickets for the public talks in the four major cities by His Holiness the Dalai Lama have been sold out. Following are the details of the public talks.
May 16, 2008 (Friday) - Bochum, Germany: "Human Rights and Globalization - Which Challenges do we have to face?"
May 17, 2008 (Saturday) - Mönchengladbach, Germany: "Peace and Human Rights - The Basis for a Modern Society"
May 18, 2008 (Sunday) - Nürnberg, Germany: "Human Rights as Commitment - Lessons from History"
May 18, 2008 (Sunday) – Bamberg, Germany: "Religion -Peacemaker or War Monger?"
On 19 May, His Holiness the Dalai Lama will arrive in Berlin. The German Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, Ms Heidemarie Wieczorek-Zeul will call on His Holiness at the hotel. Then His Holiness will meet Mr. Volker Kauder, Chairman of Christian Democratic Union and Mr. Holger Haibach, the Chairman of the Parliament’s Cross-Party Tibet Group. His Holiness the Dalai Lama will also meet with leaders of the German Green Party in the Parliament.
At the invitation of German Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee, His Holiness the Dalai Lama will address its members, member of the Committee for Human Rights, Parliament’s Cross-Party Tibet Group as well as the Parliament’s German Chinese Group.
In the evening, His Holiness the Dalai Lama will address a Tibet Solidarity Rally in front of the famous Brandenburg Gate in Berlin. Tibet Initiative Deutschland and the Tibetan Association of Germany are organising the rally to express German people’s solidarity with His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan people.
His Holiness the Dalai Lama leaves on 20 May morning for London.
