Butter Sculpture
|
Butter sculptures are an ancient Tibetan Buddhist art dating back to the 15th century in Tibet. In Tibet butter sculptures were traditionally made with butter from an animal called the yak, but in Tibetan communities in this country, it is made from clarified vegetable butter and watercolors. It does not need to be refrigerated. Butter sculptures are traditionally made by Tibetan monks for peace, prosperity and good luck. This ancient art form is found only in Tibet and India.
