Norbu was born in Western Tibet in 1956. He escaped into India with his parents in early 1960's when Tibet was invaded by communist Chinese. Soon after his arrival he was sent to Central School for Tibetans, Panchmari (M.P .) and

studied under some of the most prominent Buddhist teachers, like late Geshe Lobsang Wangdue (a former Gaden throne holder from Gyumed Trantric College) and Gaden Zemed Trulku of Gaden Monastery .He studied Tibetan Language, Literature, Buddhist diafectics, Buddhist History and religious instructions like Lamrem (Graded path) from Gaden Zemed Trulku for several years.

"1 was fortunate to have studied under such a great scholar as Zemed Rinpoche in my teens -the most formative part of one's life. I can still boast off, and am proud of, being one of his favored students." Norbu says

Later in 1976 Council for Tibetan Education gave him intensive Tibetan Language- Teaching training for 6 months at Dharamsala under it's supervision. There he was trained to teach Tibetan History , Language & Literature, and Buddhist Philosophy & dialectics with (Drup-Tha Ren-Chen Treng-wa) Jewel Beads Buddhist Tenet as the basic text for philosophy. Former Principal of Buddhist School of dialectics, Dharamsala, late Ven. Lobsang Gyaltso was his philosophy and dialectics teacher .

In 1977 soon after the course, he was sent as teacher to his home Tibetan Settlement, Chadragiri, Orissa. He had the opportunity to follow and study his family faith (Nyingma) under such prominent realized Teachers as A-Zeen Renpoche and Namkha Dremed Renpoche. Norbu regards them as his root teachers. He still sees and receives teachings from Namkha Dremed Renpoche whenever the later visits USA.

1980 he moved in Tibetan Settlement, Bylakuppe, Karnataka. He thinks himself lucky to have been able to receive teaching, empowerments and transmission from HH Penor Renpoche in Bylakuppe.

Norbu spent almost all his adult life in Tibetan Settlements receiving religious, cultural and traditional teachings from Tibetan Lamas and teachers in and around Tibetan Monasteries in Tibetan Settlements. At the same time he has been a teacher in Central School for Tibetans until he moved in Chicago in 1992.
